Hermann Wartski


Hermann Wartski of Mendel, born in Zyihlin on 25 December 1895, german, arrived in Urbisaglia on 25 July 1940. He was transferred to San Ginesio on 2 April 1942.

During the period of internment in Urbisaglia Hermann Wartski managed to get himself from his wife Bertha and their children Ruth and Heinz. Transferred to free internment in San Ginesio, they managed to avoid the German roundups by reaching the Partisans of the Nicolò group based in Monastero.

After Hermann’s liberation, Bertha and Heinz moved to the United States. His daughter Ruth married the partisan commander Augusto Pantanetti.

Hermann Wartsky died in Los Angeles on January 14, 1978.
