NINO CONTINI (1906-1944)
Nino Contini, an anti-fascist, Jewish and Zionist lawyer from Ferrara, arrived at the Campo di Urbisaglia with the first group of internees on June 16, 1940. In August he was transferred to the Tremiti because, according to a report by the Prefecture of Macerata (no. 09495 of 08.24. 1940), Contini «especially since the number of his co-religionists has considerably increased, does not miss any opportunity to set himself up as guardian and patron of their interests. […]. Basically, taking advantage of the influence he has among other Italian Jews, favored as he is by a certain intelligence, and animated by a restless and combative spirit, Contini constitutes a danger for the order and tranquility of that agglomeration ” (Contini, Bruno, Contini, Leo, Nino Contini (1906-1944): that smart boy of our father: diaries from confinement and liberated Naples, Florence, La Giuntina, 2012, p. 10). Contini died prematurely of the disease in 1944.
